Safety, Health & Environment Committee

The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Committee was formed in order to monitor developments in EU legislation concerning chemical products, e.g. the storage of chemicals, workplace safety, occupational health, hazard control and environmental protection.

The SHE Committee is an expert committee that monitors developments in the areas of health, environment and safety issues, evaluates critical developments in the legislation process and works closely together with all relevant stakeholders. The Committee currently focuses on the Commission Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of chemicals (REACH). Fecc's contribution to the REACH debate has involved the preparation of several Fecc position papers, and concrete amendments to the text of the REACH proposal. Currently, the Committee is also focusing on the implementation of REACH through the participation in the REACH Implementation Project (RIPs).

Other issues of priority include the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), the implementation of the SEVESO Directive, the European Strategy for Environment and Health (SCALE), the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) and several initiatives on the safety of chemicals.
